Description

The Indonesian noodle dish known as Mie Goreng (or Mee Goreng) is also popular in Malaysia and other countries in SouthEast Asia. Noodles are combined with chicken, prawns, vegetables, and the dish’s distinctive egg ribbons in a sticky, savory, sweet sauce. popular street food!


Ingredients

STIR FRY

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 cup shredded cabbage
  • 4 scallion, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 400 grams of egg noodles or ramen noodles, cooked according to package directions.

STIR FRY SAUCE

  • 2 tbsp Kecap Manis (sweet soy sauce)* (see notes for substitutes)
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp vegetarian oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp sriracha

Instructions

  1. Combine the ingredients for the stir-fry sauce. Place aside.
  2. In a large pan over medium-high heat, warm 1 tbsp of oil. Eggs should be whisked in a bowl before being added to a skillet and tilted to provide an even omelette. Per side, allow to fry for 1-2 minutes. (If it breaks when you flip it, don’t worry.)
  3. Cut the omelette into thin strips or pieces after removing it from the pan. Place aside.
  4. Garlic, scallions, and cabbage are added to the skillet and sautéed for 2 minutes in the remaining oil.
  5. Reintroduce the omelette and cooked noodles to the pan and combine everything.
  6. After that, add your stir-fry sauce to the pan and mix everything thoroughly.
  7. Serve right away after removing from heat.

Notes

*Hoisin sauce, dark or light soy sauce and brown sugar, or equal parts dark or light soy sauce and honey can be used to replace Kecap Manis.

Remove the egg from this recipe to make it vegan.

You are welcome to add any favorite proteins to this recipe. Prior to adding the noodles, combine the proteins with the veggies and sautee.

For up to three days, keep leftovers in the refrigerator in an airtight container.
