Description

My quick and delicious grilled brats are an incredibly tasty treat that you can make in no time! Before grilling, give them a quick simmer in a delicious German beer, and you’ll be amazed at how something so simple can be so tasty!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 bratwurst sausages (raw, thawed)
  • 6 bratwurst buns (optional)
  • 6 tablespoon German mustard (optional)
  • 6 tablespoon sauerkraut (optional)
  • 1224 oz beer (optional – A good German beer like Carlsberg, Beck’s, St Pauli Girl, or IPA of your choice.)

Instructions

Grilled Brats

  •

Set your grill, charcoal, gas, or pellet to a temperature of 300°F (149°C) to 350°F (176°C). For 2 zone grilling, you’ll probably need to move your coals to one side for charcoal grills, turn the gas off one side for gas grills, and adjust the temperature control for pellet grills.

  • Grill the brats for about 20 minutes, turning them every so often to get a nice caramelization. The internal temperature of the brats should reach at least 160°F (72°C).
  • 6 sausages (bratwurst)
  • Remove from the grill and serve with a great German mustard and sauerkraut on buns.
  • 6 bratwurst buns, 6 tbsp German mustard, 6 tbsp sauerkraut

Grilled Beer Brats (optional)

  • Pour beer into a skillet (with a lid), add brats, and bring to a simmer/low boil for about 15 minutes, or until brats reach a temperature of 160°. (72C).
  • 12-24 ounces of beer, 6 bratwurst sausages
  • Grill for 2 to 3 minutes on each side to achieve a nice brown caramel color. Make sure to rotate them frequently, and don’t leave them alone for too long, as they can quickly burn when exposed to direct heat.
  • Remove from the grill, plate, and enjoy!

Notes

  • For direct grilling brats, low and slow is the way to go; high temperatures will cause the brats to burst.
  • If you pierce the casing, the great juices will pour out, leaving you with a sort of dried sausage.
  • The final temperature should be between 160°F (72°C) and 180°F (82°C).
