Squash casserole is an essential dish for holidays, family gatherings, and other occasions. This wonderful dish for squash casserole, which is topped with a buttery cracker topping, is a perennial favorite.


  • 4 cups sliced yellow squash
  • ½ cup chopped onion
  • ¼ cup water, or more as needed
  • 35 buttery round crackers, crushed
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • ¾ cup milk
  • ¼ cup butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ground black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons butter


  • Set oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees C).
  • Squash and onion should be cooked in a sizable skillet at medium heat. Add some water. Cook the squash covered for about 5 minutes or until it is soft. After thoroughly draining, place in a big basin.
  • In a medium bowl, combine cheese and cracker crumbs. Cooked squash and onions are combined with half of the cracker mixture.
  • Add milk and eggs to the squash mixture after combining them in a small bowl.
  • Salt and pepper to taste, then stir in 1/4 cup melted butter. Pour into the baking dish that has been prepared. Add the remaining cracker mixture and 2 tablespoons of butter before sprinkling.
