- 1 ½ – 2 lb chicken breast (3-4 chicken breasts) boneless, skinless
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon cracked pepper
- ½ teaspoon sea salt
- ⅛ – ¼ cayenne pepper optional
- spray oil
- ⅓ c BBQ sauce
Instructions
- Set aside the paprika, garlic, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper. If necessary, pound the chicken to achieve an equal thickness. Spray the chicken breasts with oil after patting them dry. Apply the spice rub over the oil-sprayed chicken and gently press it in place to keep it in place. Reverse the procedure on the other side of the chicken.
- Spray the air fryer basket and place the chicken on top side down (presentation side). Close the air fryer and heat it for 10 minutes at 360°F. After 10 minutes, flip the chicken and cook for another 8-10 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
- Return the chicken to the air fryer for another 1-2 minutes to allow the BBQ sauce to heat up. Remove the chicken from the pan and set aside for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Pound the chicken to get it as even as possible for the best results. If you have thick chicken on one side and thin chicken on the other, one side may be overcooked while the other is undercooked.
- Chicken breasts come in a variety of sizes and forms. If your chicken is particularly huge and thick (over an inch and a half thick), it will definitely take longer to cook. If you have small breasts, you may want to check in after a shorter period of time. This requires the use of a meat thermometer.
- You don’t want to cook the chicken in the BBQ sauce the entire time. It should only be added to the air fryer chicken breasts at the very end. If you don’t, you’ll wind up with really black chicken!
- To bring out the smokey BBQ taste in this air fryer chicken, replace the ordinary paprika with smoked paprika.
