Description
Don’t be fooled by the name! This isn’t your typical sugary ‘cake’ for dessert. Bologna Cake is a simple, flavorful Southern meal that is commonly served as an appetizer or side dish at potlucks or family gatherings. You may have heard about this one-of-a-kind dish while watching Sweet Home Alabama. You have to try this bologna cake recipe, whether you’re inquisitive or amused.
Ingredients
-
1 package bologna
-
12 oz cream cheese (1 and 1/2 packages, room temperature)
-
3 tablespoons onion powder
-
optional cheese whiz for decorating
Instructions
-
Combine room temperature cream cheese and onion powder in a large mixing bowl.
-
Using a spatula, combine the ingredients.
-
Using paper towels, gently dry one slice of bologna from the package. Place it on a plate after that.
-
Using an offset spatula, spread a layer of cream cheese mixture on top of the bologna. (If you have one, use a cake decorating turntable or a lazy Susan turntable.)
-
Then, between each layer, spread roughly 1 tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture. Rep until all of the bologna slices are gone.
-
More cream cheese mixture should be spread on the side of the bologna cake.
-
You can use the corner of a piping bag or a zip-top bag to adorn your bologna cake. Then, directly into the hole, insert a decorating nozzle. Fill it halfway with cheese whiz and put it onto your cake. Serve and have fun!
Notes
- For this dish, use soft, room temperature cream cheese.
- Before assembly, pat dry the bologna slices.
- Spread the cream cheese mixture over the cake using an offset spatula.
