Description
These homemade replicas of Popeyes’ Cajun Fries are fluffy inside and out and have the ideal kick. The French fries from fast food restaurants don’t taste any better than these do. The tempting blend of flavors for a genuine Cajun delight sets these Popeyes Fries apart.
Ingredients
For the French Fries
- 2 large russet potatoes peeled and rinsed
- 2 quarts vegetable oil (you can also sub canola oil)
For the Cajun Seasoning
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon dried Oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
Potatoes should be diced and soaked.
- Cut the potatoes into sticks that are 1/2 inch thick. (A French fry cutter can be used to achieve an equal thickness.)
- Put the potato sticks in cold water and soak them overnight or for one hour. By removing the starch, will help to make the French fries extremely crispy.
- After a second rinse, move the fries to a dish covered with paper towels. After drying, give them five minutes to set.
Construct Cajun seasoning.
- In a small bowl, combine the ingredients for the Cajun spice. Place aside
Construct Popeyes French fries
- Using a deep fryer or Dutch oven, heat the oil to 300°F. Carefully lower the potato sticks into the oil using a slotted spoon. To prevent your fryer from being overcrowded, fry in batches. Each batch should be fried for 4-5 minutes before being transferred to a plate covered with paper towels. Keep in mind that they won’t be crisp yet.
- Turn up the heat to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and cook each batch for 2-3 minutes. Until they’re crispy and golden brown.
