BENIHANA GINGER SALAD DRESSING RECIPE

My husband and I, who are both from the West Coast, have always been lovers of Benihana hibachi grill restaurants and their delectable flavors.

A salad dressed with Benihana’s acidic signature, house ginger salad dressing recipe (which is available for purchase at their restaurant locations) is one of our favorite things to eat on a more frequent basis than, say, surf n’ turf every night.

To be honest, I think my hubby goes to Benihana’s for supper mainly to get the salad dressing and dipping sauces! It’s a good thing he noticed when the Benihana website used to post their actual recipes.

This creamy ginger salad dressing became a staple in my kitchen, which is fantastic! Otherwise, I would have spent a fortune every time I went by a Benihana outlet purchasing the dressing!! Seriously, I was wondering how long it would be before we had this orange dressing streaming through our veins!

BENIHANA GINGER SALAD DRESSING INGREDIENTS

The ingredients needed for this easy dressing recipe include: peanut oil, onion, rice wine vinegar, water, ginger, celery, soy sauce, ketchup ( or tomato paste ), sugar, lemon juice, and salt & pepper to taste.

Make sure you’re using a decent Asian rice wine vinegar with a clean appearance. It is not recommended to use white vinegar as a substitute. You’ll need a fresh bottle of rice wine vinegar anyhow, so you’ll be able to do this at home on a regular basis.

How to Chop Vegetables for Ginger Dressing

Nigella Lawson recommends using a mezzaluna to cut the onion, ginger, and celery for this dressing. A mezzaluna is a two-handled curved knife. Chefs use this instrument to mince herbs and spices like ginger root and turmeric swiftly and efficiently by rocking it left and right over the dishes.

Using a manual hand chopper is another technique to accomplish this effect. There are a lot of options available at a range of costs to suit your budget. Of course, an ordinary knife can be used as well; just make sure it is sharpened.

Description

This famous Benihana ginger salad dressing may be made at home and is served at Benihana and other Japanese steakhouses. It’s a light, creamy, and refreshing salad dressing with a powerful ginger flavor!

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to a blender or food processor and blend until smooth, about 45 seconds to 1 minute.
  2. Refrigerate for at least an hour before serving and keep stored in an airtight container.

Notes

*The flavors blend better after they’ve been refrigerated, and the dressing tastes best the second and third days after it’s been made.

**Store in an airtight container and keep refrigerated. The dressing can be stored in the refrigerator for up to one week.

*The original recipe called for tomato paste, but with such a small amount, it’s much quicker to use ketchup than of opening a can of tomato paste. Although the difference is insignificant, this serves as formal documentation of my changes to the original Benihana recipe.
